Close encounters of the third kind. Developing cultural awareness in adult courses

What motivates an adult learner? How difficult is it to work without a coursebook? How do we make it happen? In this talk we will be addressing these and other related questions based on our experiences working with adults in a post-coursebook context within and beyond the boundaries of the classroom.

Presenters’ biodata

Ileana Colaneri is a graduate from IES “Olga Cossettini”. She has run Instituto Rosarino de Idiomas as a co-head for 31 years and is in charge of adult conversation workshops/ courses there.

Julieta Parente is a graduate from IES “Olga Cossettini”. She has taught all levels at Instituto Rosarino de Idiomas for more than 20 years and is in charge of the coordination of adult courses there. She is currently attending a Master’s programme in Cultural Studies at the Centro de Estudios Interdisciplinarios at UNR.

Mariana Stoddart graduated from IES “Olga Cossettini” in 1987. She later earned a Master’s Degree in English thanks to a Fulbright scholarship. She is co-head of Instituto Rosarino de Idiomas, where she currently teaches several conversation workshops..
