What English do we teach when we teach English?

Dr Darío Banegas

In this webinar, we will take a sociolinguistics perspective to reflect on authenticity, identity, and ideology in the English language learning environments we construct. We will revise some key sociolinguistic terms and discuss others such as translanguaging. We will also analyse some teaching and learning materials and think of ways in which we can draw on English as a lingua franca to design different activities and resources. The webinar will combine a lecture mode with more seminar-like activities. Reading material will be provided after the webinar
